Baadshah Shah Rukh will no more rule Pepsi’s ‘Youngistaan’
Mumbai, Feb 13: Sad but true, Shah Rukh is being considered too old by Pepsi to rule its 'Youngistaan' advertisement campaign. Just like the recluse Rani Mukerjee, who has been dropped from lead ad campaigns all of a sudden, Shah Rukh, too, has been sidelined. The superstar confirmed that his contract with the company is not being renewed. "I am not a part of the campaign anymore, as of now we are not renewing the contract.”
The move has come in the wake of Pepsi’s attempts to target the youth, which forms the highest population in India. Its ‘Youngistaan’ ad campaign, featuring Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor and Shah Rukh, went on to be a huge hit. But now the brand is roping in new faces to promote the campaign. And evidently, Shah Rukh is considered an old face.
When contacted, a Pepsico official said, "We have a long and enduring relationship with Shah Rukh, which PepsiCo is very proud of. We are currently in discussions with him to take this relationship to a new phase."
Not only SRK, even with stalwarts including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, the contracts were not renewed by the firm after it kicked off the 'Youngistaan' campaign last year.
Pepsi has benefited enormously with SRK endorsing the brand and it is understood that the company is not fully severing ties with him. However, it remains to be seen, who loses more with this move – Shah Rukh or Pepsi!
